Earth Day Volunteer Project

Location Info

Finn Rock Reach is located just downstream from the community of Blue River, Oregon, between mile markers 38 and 40 and Hwy 126. There is limited parking at the project location, so we will be meeting at the McKenzie Community School to sign-in and then caravan down. Carpooling to and from the event, or the school, is recommended if possible.

The Basics

There is no better way to celebrate Earth Day than by giving back to the lands and rivers you cherish. Join McKenzie River Trust from 10:00am to 12:30pm for a family-friendly Earth Day celebration supporting reforestation efforts at Finn Rock Reach! This project is perfect for families five years old and up (little ones are welcome, too!). McKenzie River Trust will provide light refreshments, and you are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy by the water after the project if you like!

Safety and Comfort

This project includes walking on uneven ground, bending, and carrying buckets of mulch. We will also need a team of people helping to fill up buckets from the mulch staging area, which is a great way to contribute that does not require as much walking. April can be a bit wet so we highly recommend that you bring rain boots and clothing that can get muddy. What Will We Be Doing

Over the course of the morning, we'll be working together to mulch hundreds of baby trees and shrubs planted in the property's recently completed restoration area. The work will include filling and carrying buckets of mulch from centralized piles into the planting area. This mulch will retain moisture and suppress competing vegetation, helping these young plants get established in their first few seasons on the land. This bucket brigade is a great way to get out and get active while giving back to this special place we call home!
